Bringing Container Shipping to the 21st Century

The global shipping industry is worth over $15 trillion and involves the participation of every country. To sustain the shipping demands that have arisen due to globalization, there are over 27 million freight containers in the world. Despite how extraordinary this number of containers is, there isn't a database to collectively record all of them or any network to track these. Given that commerce is functioning in the age of data, the shipping industry has fallen years behind. Shipping remains and will remain one of the most important means of transporting goods and it connects the links in any supply chain; there's plenty of opportunity to make this market more efficient with the aid of advanced technological infrastructure.
One of the most valuable organic benefits of blockchain technology is that it allows the ability to securely allow permissioned access to data. A new project, Blockshipping, is leveraging blockchain technology to develop a Global Shipping Container Platform. Blockshipping intends to develop a singular record that contains information of every shipping container, and then wants to extend the platform to track the real-time location of every container. Since such a technological infrastructure could surface all shipping containers, the company intends to allow transactions related to the containers within its platform with a native token.

The Benefits

Blockshipping's founders have been in the shipping industry for decades; they've been able to pin-point some key problems and they're developing the Global Shipping Container Platform (GSCP) as a solution. Presently, the shipping industry faces costly inefficiencies due to a lack of ability to track and view data on any given container; this is one of only several problems.
  • Blockshipping, by providing real-time tracking of data ensures that unfilled containers are properly kept from being dispatched. This could either open up more space for containers that are actually being used or simply save the costs associated with lodging, transporting, and porting an unfilled container. Consequently, the industry is able to lower expenses by removing a cost that should never have existed to begin with. An additional benefit of this is that no resources will be exerted to unnecessarily transport an empty container, the shipping industry's environmental impact will also be reduced.
  • The world's leading financial organizations have pressed that increased efficiency in the shipping industry could lead to an increased growth in global trade. Blockshipping can securely provide container data to those involved in any shipment who can seamlessly gather all the important information from an immutable record. Since any shipment involves cooperation among layers of corporate and government entities, a smooth and secure access to necessary container information will provide much-needed efficiency. Additionally, the usage of internal token can reduce all the financial frictions this global industry faces.
Wrap-Up: Blockshipping is bringing much-needed technological advancements to the container shipping industry that will increase efficiency in the industry while providing companies with considerable cost reductions.
